About

Footnotes from the Middle is an independent, investigative publication launched by K. Yousif.

Our lives are shaped by big systems—social, economic, and political institutions. Often, the most telling evidence of how these systems actually work happens on the ground, in our towns and neighborhoods. Footnotes from the Middle examines how national policies, trends, and decisions play out in local communities, with a particular focus on Vigo County, Indiana.

Moving beyond the headlines, each long-form piece draws on research and investigative reporting to map the impact of big systems on small towns.
